The Central Park Barber services started in response to the pandemic of 2020. When the shutdown of all establishments occurred in New York City on March 13th, after 90 days of quarantine and being home due to lack of work in the barbershop industry, Herman James noticed people were in great need of a haircut. As a solution, Herman took the initiative and provided locals with the option to receive a professional haircut outside, which lowered and mitigated risks in comparison to being indoors. 

     Out of consideration for the many people who were financially impacted, Herman had no desire to charge anyone for his barbering services. He simply depended on the trust and confidence he had in people to support him in his humble efforts to satisfy a great need. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, Herman provides this accommodating service to the Central Park community/visitors. During the winter, Herman provides his services as a traveling barber to local residents and tourist in the Manhattan area, or he collaborates with a neighboring barbershop to exclusively service his clients.                   For the many inquirers who would like to support and contribute to this altruistic act of community service, The Central Park Barber organization has a subscription feature. With a committed and modest donation of $9.99 (per month), clients and general supporters can now become sponsors. Proceeds FULLY covers the appropriate contribution for a haircut, and is allocated to Central Park (for the upkeep of the workspace) and towards all expenses involved in the maintenance of tools, equipment, and general operations. 

     This feature ensures the sustainability and continuity of provided services, allows accessibility to those who are in need with an inability to contribute monetarily, combats inflated barbershop rates by providing people with quality professional haircuts at a very affordable rate, and it gives caring people the opportunity to give back and become a significant part of the 1st Central Park barbershop in history.
